Info needed about a JMPRESA VIVERI Token

JMPRESA VIVERI  Token
(c)

Patrizia Di Monte from Italy  searches information about an old token with a six pointed star.

The face reports "JMPRESA VIVERI" surrounding the star of David, with a 5 pointed star on 6 o' clock, and on the other side a number "20".

This may be a token for food distribution from/to Hebrew community during second world war, in concentration camps. The strange thing is that in italian "IMPRESA VIVERI" is for "food business" but they use the "I" and not the "J" as first letter. There are some other token with "J" in place of "I" as the first capital letter, and they are mint in Germany.

El Al bottle- Note

Photographed by Hadi Orr (c) 2010

Hadi Orr wrote to me:
These bottles were given out to first class passengers only on the airplane in the 50's. These bottles are very rare and some come in boxes which I had never seen before I purchased them.

Berber Six pointed Stars

Six pointed Stars above mysterious marks carved on a Berber stone lamp bought recently by David Mimon while visiting the Sahara Desert, Morocco. If you can decipher this writing you are invited to write to Eli Eshed, who published an article about this lamp in his blog: "the universe of Eli Eshed". It seems to me that the Hebrew word on the right is "cancer".

Candy Box in the shape of a Star of David

This is a commercial advertisement from the fifties showing a drawing of a candy box in the shape of a Star of David held in the hand of a beautiful woman. This style of drawings was replaced later by pictures of candy boxes and of beautiful women, which left fewer places for imagination. Anyhow, seeing the Jewish star in such a nostalgic context is quite unique, so I’m proud to bring you this excellent picture.

Yiddish Hebrew Dictionary

On the cover of the Yiddish Hebrew Dictionary by Israel Brechyahu printed in 1947 in Kassel, Germany for holocaust survivors in the American Zone we see Magen David above a swastika above the wreckage from the period of the holocaust, including burning parchments and a Menorah. Thanks to Dobush from Kfar Gaza who directed me to this picture.

Haifa Kindergarten Magen David 1955

-So cute!

An old black and white Hanukkah 1955 picture of Magen Davids in Margalit’s Kindergarten at Moriah 20, Haifa. There’s one on each paper hat (Israeli flag) and then there’s the central one which is made from six sticks and disappeared right after the photo opportunity.

Magen David Made From Branches

Magen David Made From Branches
Magen David Made From Branches appears on a hand made improvised gate erected in 1900 for a national celebration in Rehovot. I noticed that in these B &W photos from the beginning of the last century the stars of David are usually hand made while most of the current Jewish stars are industrial products made by designers.

Israel 1958 Postcard

Israel 1958 Postcard

Magen David as part of the IDF aircraft emblem appears on an 1958 nostalgic postcard issued to mark Ten years of Israeli Independence. A plane that arrives from the sea allows us to see Israel from above: a green small (before the settlements) and clean country.

Mane stars of David are scattered along the margins of this loan document from 1912 . I wander if in four years it will be possible to cash it. Copyright: Gideon from the Israeli collector's forum "collect".

Beatles 1964 Performance In Israel

What is the Star of David doing on a ticket to the 1964 cancelled Beatles Performance in Israel? Israel cancelled the performance because there were politicians who said they were afraid it would corrupt the innocent minds of the Israeli youth (but what they really wanted was to gain some votes for next elections).

Magen David appears on an old Happy New Year Card from Hayim Shtayer‘s collection. Along with the Magen David we see here a painting of the Jewish High Priest. Courtesy of Hayim Shtayer
